UCI World Championships 2017, Chengdu, China

It is now time for us to select the team to compete at the World Championships to be held in Chengdu, China between 8th and 11th November 2017. This will be the first time that the Championships have formed part of the Urban Games and a new scoring system is being used to discourage the tactical dabbing that has come in for so much criticism of late. Unusually riders are only allowed to compete in one category so there can be no doubling up between 20” and 26”, however, in an apparent effort to encourage riders to compete, whereas there used to be a limit of 4 riders per category per nation there is now no maximum number.

Given the new format we are not going to strictly implement the selection policy so should you be an elite or expert plus qualified rider and wish to ride either in the Elite or Junior 20” or 26” categories please email Barry Gawthorpe confirming your wish in order that we can discuss the applications amongst the Federation Delegates. We intend then to present our team selection to British Cycling in the hope that they will support this so that the team can be confirmed to the UCI. If you need any information on the Games this is available by searching the subject through UCI or by selecting the link below.

Given the fact that the selected riders will need to obtain visas and book flights and accommodation (apparently you cannot book this until your selection has been confirmed) please contact us by 9-9-2017 so that we can liaise with British Cycling.
