The 2017 Trials World Championships starts this week in (8th-12th) Chengdu, China. This year the competition is part of the Urban Cycling Championships which consists of BMX Freestyle, MTB XCE and of course Trials!
Along with the new event concept there is also a different scoring system being rolled out this year which instead of winning with the lowest score you win with the highest! no that doesn’t mean that the more dabs you have the better! for example if you record a “clean ride ” you score “10” instead of “0”. A full set of rules can be found in the links below.
Competing this year is current World Champion Jack Carthy who will be going all out to retain his Rainbow Jersey after what he describes himself as a disappointing World Cup campaign during the summer.
Along side Jack in the 26″ Elite category is double National Trials Cup Winner (Elite) Andrei Burton who will be looking to put in a good performance in the Games inaugural year.
Last but not least Joining these two in the Elite 26″ is Steven Rogers, we haven’t seen much of Steven competing this year so maybe stealth tactics maybe at work!
In the Elite 20′ Class British National Cup Winner (Expert Senior) Andrew Chai will be showcasing his unique all out committed style of riding which always goes down well with the crowds as does his famous smile!
Will Ackerley will be competing in his first World Championships in the Junior 20″ Category. Will has had a tough start to his World cup Campaign this year and suffered an injury whilst practicing prior to the final round in Antwerp this year and has not ridden in anger since whilst he tried to get fit for these Games, Will’s ankle swelled up on the long haul flight out to China so lets hope it settles down before his comp on Thursday!
Good Luck to you all and have a great time, don’t forget to send us some photos to post!
